Fourth Year of Volunteer Projects

The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is a programme funded by the European Union with the aim of enabling young people to engage in volunteering activities abroad.

The objective of our current programme is for our ESC volunteers to enrich the everyday lives of residents in institutions across Szeged, including nursery and primary school children, secondary school students, patients in child and adolescent psychiatry, members of day-care centres for people with disabilities, and residents of care homes for older people. One group of hosted volunteers prepared musical and dance performances, while others created murals and delivered arts and crafts activities. In addition, the volunteers participated in local and national events promoting volunteering and visited local secondary schools to give presentations in English about their own cultures during language lessons.

Between 1 March 2025 and 11 July 2025, two ESC volunteers joined the Talentum Foundation: Maria from Portugal and Paloma from Spain. During their project, they visited a variety of institutions, including nurseries, care homes and clubs for older people, hospital departments, and organisations supporting people with disabilities in Szeged and nearby settlements. In these institutions, they delivered musical and dance performances, introducing traditional dances and songs popular in their home countries.

 

 

Dance and Discover (19 June 2025 – 06 July 2025)

 

As part of the 2025 group ESC project, we hosted 10 volunteers for 18 days from Georgia, Greece, Spain and Portugal. Together with the two long-term volunteers, they organised and delivered an English-language dance camp between 30 June and 4 July 2025 at Partfürdő for 15 young people from Szeged. In addition to preparing for and running the camp, the volunteers also held dance workshops and intercultural evenings in other institutions.

 

 

Colour the Future (15 September 2025 – 20 February 2026)

 

Within this ESC project, we welcomed two additional long-term volunteers: Lizi from Georgia and Keiti from Estonia, who joined the Talentum team. The two volunteers supported different target groups through art-based activities. They created large-scale murals in several institutions, including Klúg Péter School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, the Family and Child Welfare Service (Sás Street Unit), and the Tünde Square Nursery. Alongside mural painting, they organised arts and crafts sessions in care homes and clubs for older people, day-care centres for people with disabilities, and nurseries. They also contributed to English lessons in local secondary schools, where they presented their own cultures to students.
